Frequently Asked Questions

Who qualifies for the Adaptive Wellness Program?

The Adaptive Wellness Program can accommodate any individual above the age of 60 years, living in the community, and requiring the use of adaptive devices or technologies for maintaining their independence and safety. The criteria include individuals who may not have a formal medical diagnosis but still require assistive devices to maintain their independence at home.

What is the Adaptive Wellness Program and how does it help seniors?

The Adaptive Wellness Program helps older adults remain safe, comfortable, and independent at home. After a home safety assessment, participants may receive assistive devices or technology that can make everyday tasks easier and reduce safety risks. Under the program, the certified AgeWays Home Safety Specialist conducts a safety evaluation of the home environment and identifies any potential safety hazards or limitations that hinder the person from living independently in the home. Various assistive technology products may be provided, including smart speakers, motion-sensor lights, non-slip flooring, portable magnification devices, audible alarm clocks, and jar openers, among others.

Do I need a medical condition to qualify for assistive devices?

No specific medical conditions required. Eligibility is based on having a need for assistive devices or technology to help you remain safe and independent at home, not on a formal diagnosis. The home safety specialist will assess your individual situation and recommend items accordingly.

How do I get started if I’m unsure which services my loved one may need?

If you're not sure where to start, our Resource Specialists can help. They'll listen to your situation, answer questions, and connect you with programs and services that may be available to support you or your loved one. They can help you connect not only to programs and services offered by AgeWays, but also to programs and services offered by other community organizations. When appropriate, you may also be connected with our Clinical Screener team, who may conduct a more detailed assessment to determine whether an AgeWays program is a good fit and whether you meet that program’s eligibility requirements. You may contact the AgeWays Resource Center Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. by calling (800) 852-7795.
