Meals on Wheels helps make sure homebound seniors have a nutritious meal and a friendly volunteer at the door Monday through Friday. While federal funds help cover the cost of this critical program on the weekdays, there is no government funding to cover the cost of meals on the holidays. We depend on donations from people like you to make sure we can deliver a hot, festive meal and a smiling face to the doors of local seniors on these special days.
“The meal brightened up my day and made me feel part of the holiday.” — Stephanie — Meals on Wheels participant
As the eldest of four children, Stephanie was always focused on helping others. She worked as an X-ray technician in a local hospital, supporting radiation therapy for cancer patients. Then later in life went back to college to become a certified dietary technician and finished her career by providing healthy meals for residents at a nursing home. After so many of years of caring for others, she’s grateful that others have stepped in when she needed it. At 77, damage to her spine has made it hard for her to stand, shop, or prepare meals, and she counts on her weekday Meals on Wheels delivery. She’s also sometimes received a meal on Thanksgiving or Christmas.
Your donation to our Holiday Meals on Wheels program will deliver so much more than a meal. It will also bring a caring volunteer to the door of a senior who might otherwise spend the holiday hungry or alone. It’s someone to wish that senior a happy holiday and make sure they know they’re not forgotten.
We hope you’ll consider giving so that seniors like Sally know you care. Even a small amount can help. Every $7 you give can bring holiday cheer, warmth and joy to the door of a local senior.
