Holiday Meals on Wheels Brings Hot Meals and Holiday Cheer to Homebound Seniors

Meals on Wheels delivers nutritious meals and friendly volunteers to seniors who can’t easily leave their homes. During the holidays, federal funding doesn’t cover meal deliveries, so your donation ensures a hot, festive meal and a smiling face when seniors need it most. It’s someone to wish that senior a happy holiday and make sure they know they’re not forgotten. Your donation stays local and helps seniors in your community, serving six counties and partnering with 13 local providers in southeast Michigan: Livingston, Macomb, Monroe, Oakland, St. Clair, and Washtenaw.

Meals are delivered on Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah, New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day, Passover, and Easter (delivery may vary by provider). This year, we are in need of 7,700 meals.

'Meals on Wheels Angels'

Donna 69, has survived cancer and multiple surgeries, including one that removed part of her stomach. She needs leg braces and a walker to get around because of osteoporosis. Like others who smile through pain and worry, she is grateful to be alive.

Donna has been getting Meals on Wheels daily and Holiday Meals on Wheels on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter since 2018, mainly because her children are typically away for the holidays or busy with their own little ones. She looks forward to the ‘visits’ from the folks who deliver her meals.

“The best part of Meals on Wheels is that everyone who comes to the door to deliver is always upbeat,” she says. “I call them ‘my Meals on Wheels angels.’ Even the substitute drivers are so kind.”
