Overview:
The Interfaith Volunteer Caregivers (IVC) program provides a wide variety of support to older and disabled adults who are struggling to remain safe and independent in their own homes. IVC works throughout Macomb, Oakland & St. Clair Counties in Michigan to recruit, support and train volunteers who share their time and skills with neighbors in need.
Services Include:
Transportation and help with errands;
Minor home repairs, maintenance, chores & yard work;
Light housekeeping and meal preparation;
Friendly visits and supportive phone calls;
Respite breaks for full-time family caregivers;
and other assistance that can help someone remain safely in their home.
ELIGIBILITY
Generally, our volunteers serve individuals who meet all of the following criteria:
Persons who are 18 or older.
Persons who live in Macomb, Oakland & St. Clair Counties.
Persons who live in their own home or apartment, not in a nursing home or assisted living facility.
Persons who are unable to do the service they are requesting themselves because of a disability or general frailty.
Persons who are unable to get this kind of help through other means, such as paid help, other service programs, or help from family members.
Interfaith Volunteer Caregivers (IVC) is not a professional home health service. Volunteers are neighbors helping neighbors, and there are limits to what they can do. IVC does not:
Provide medical or in-home health care, or stay overnight.
Provide ongoing daily support beyond short visits (typically a few hours, no more than once a week).
Provide hands-on personal care such as bathing, dressing, or feeding.
Dispense medications.
Lift or transfer someone who cannot move with minimal assistance.
