Volunteer & Make a Difference in Your Community

Volunteering with AgeWays is a meaningful way to support seniors and family caregivers in your community. Your time brings meals, guidance, and companionship to those who need it most. Volunteers are at the heart of everything we do, helping seniors live safely, independently, and with dignity. Explore current volunteer opportunities below.

Become a Volunteer Medicare Counselor

Join our State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) and help seniors understand their Medicare options, save money, and make informed decisions.

Becoming a Medicare counselor is a detailed, hands-on training process. Volunteers typically complete a combination of self-paced online modules, live trainings, and supervised practice sessions before working with beneficiaries on their own. Most people spend 20–30 hours completing the initial certification, followed by a few hours each month to stay up to date during Open Enrollment and throughout the year. This level of preparation ensures that every counselor feels confident, accurate, and ready to help older adults navigate complex Medicare decisions.

If you are interested in becoming a SHIP volunteer, call SHIP at (800) 803-7174.
