Heat Warnings Issued: List of Cooling Centers

Dangerous heat is back in southeast Michigan. A heat advisory has been issued for all of southeast Michigan through tonight at 10 pm. However, temperatures are expected to hover in the upper 80s and 90s, at least through Thursday, Aug. 29.

We are urging older adults to take precautions to keep themselves safe, and we are urging people to check on older friends, family, and neighbors — especially those who do not have air conditioning. If your older loved one does not have air conditioning, think about making a plan together for staying cool. There are cooling centers across the area. Download the full list of cooling centers in Livingston, Macomb, Monroe, Oakland, St. Clair and Washtenaw counties. Some tips for staying safe in the heat:

Heat Illness Signs and Symptoms:

Heat illness is serious and can even lead to death. See the Heat and Safety Fact Seat from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services for more information.

Heat Exhaustion Symptoms:
Seek immediate help if the person throws up, cannot drink, symptoms worsen, or symptoms last more than one hour.

Heat Stroke Symptoms:
Call 911 right away if you think someone is experiencing heat stroke!
