Information to Help Southeast Michigan Seniors Access the Covid-19 Vaccine
There are three types of organizations where older adults in the AgeWays’s six-county Michigan region will be able to get the vaccine:
Your county health department
Your health care system/hospital
Pharmacies (including Meijer, Rite Aid, Walgreens, Walmart and Kroger)
We have listed Covid-19 vaccine information below for county health departments in each of the six counties in the AgeWays service area. This includes links to online registration forms from county health departments, where available. You can also check the State of Michigan Coronavirus Website for current information: http://bit.ly/MIVaccineInfo for up-to-date information on the vaccine and vaccine access or check Vaccines.gov to find a vaccination appointment near you.
Resources to help older adults who don’t have internet access
We know that some older adults may have difficulty registering online. Unfortunately, we do not have a way to directly help people make appointments. Here are three options for people without internet access:
The MDHHS COVID-19 Hotline/2-1-1 ((888) 535-6136 (Press 1)) will help residents who don’t have access to the internet navigate the vaccine scheduling process. Available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday/Sunday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. You can also dial 2-1-1 to access the hotline.
Beaumont Health’s Coronavirus Hotline may be a resource. It will help older adults who do not have access to the internet schedule their vaccine appointment at Beaumont. The line is open from 8 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday at (800) 592-4784.
Vaccine Angels. Michigan vaccine hunters is a volunteer group that helps people who are currently eligible find appointments. Submit your information via the Michigan vaccine hunters google form.
Livingston County: For vaccines for people who are homebound, contact the Livingston County Health Department at (517)552-6819.
Macomb County: For homebound appointments, call the Covid helpline at (586) 463- 3750.
Monroe County: Contact the Monroe Commission on Aging at (734) 240-3290.
Oakland County: Oakland County Health Division is partnering with several providers to deliver the vaccine to homebound residents. You can make an appointment directly with those providers. Make an appointment with MobiCare by calling (248) 274-6066, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Download the MobiCare Home Vaccination Flyer ). St. Clair County: Homebound vaccinations offered through the St. Clair County Health Department. Call ( 800) 297-0099.
Washtenaw County: Homebound vaccination for those who qualify offered via Nurse on the Run Program. Call (734) 544- 6700.
Transportation to Vaccination Appointments:
LETS Transportation (Livingston County): LETS Transportation is offering free rides to Covid-19 vaccination appointments. Call (517) 546-6600 to schedule your ride as soon as your appointment is confirmed.
SMART (Macomb County): SMART is also helping Macomb County seniors get to vaccination sites. SMART Call Center staff taking calls for interested seniors to be added to the County’s waiting list for the vaccine. Once an appointment has been scheduled SMART will work with the resident to schedule a ride to the vaccination site. Call (586) 421-6579. Taking calls Monday- Friday, from 3 -7 pm, Saturdays, 8 am – 1 pm, and Sundays, 9 am – 1 pm.
SMART FLEX (Macomb and Oakland County): Free transportation to and from vaccination sites for people with scheduled vaccine appointments. Operates from 8 am to 6 pm, Monday Friday and 10 am through 4 pm, Saturday and Sunday. Call (734) 212-8429 or download the SMART FLEX App. If using the app make sure the profile is set to “Vaccination.”
Washtenaw County: Vaccinate Washtenaw will provide free transportation to vaccinate appointments to anyone with a barrier to transportation. Provided by AARP@50+ Program. Call (844) 900-4892 and use the code Vaccinate Washtenaw to book your free ride(s). Please book at least 24 hours in advance, if possible. MyRide2: Resource to help older adults and people with disabilities find transportation in Macomb, Oakland, Washtenaw and Wayne counties. While they will help in finding and scheduling transportation, you must pay the transportation provider directly. Call (855) 697-4332 or visit myride2.com.
