Senior Action Week & Rally

Each year, AgeWays participates in Senior Action Week and the Older Michiganians Day Rally at the Michigan State Capitol. These events give seniors a platform to share their voices and influence policy.

Connecting With Your Legislators

Connecting with your elected officials is one of the most powerful ways to advocate for older adults and caregivers in our region. Here are the most effective ways to reach out.

• Phone: A phone call is one of the quickest and most effective ways to share your perspective. Legislative offices track constituent calls, and staff can pass your message directly to the legislator.
• Email: Send a clear, concise message and include your full name and mailing address so staff can verify you are a constituent and provide a response.
• Letter: If mailing a letter, be sure to include your full name and address. Written correspondence is logged and shared with the legislator.
• In-Person Visit: Schedule an appointment in advance or attend public coffee hours or town halls. Meeting face-to-face can leave a strong impression.
• Virtual Meeting: You can request a virtual appointment through a legislator’s office. Coordinate directly with staff to schedule.
• Social Media: Many legislators maintain public social media accounts where they share updates and engage with constituents.
