Aid and Attendance
Aid and Attendance is an additional VA pension benefit for Veterans (or surviving spouses) who have served during wartime and need help with daily activities. It can help pay for in-home support, assisted living, or adult foster care. Individuals may qualify if they need regular assistance with personal care, are bedbound, live in a nursing home due to disability, or have limited vision. Eligibility is determined by the VA, but this benefit can significantly reduce care costs and ease pressure on family caregivers.
Veteran Directed Care (VDC)
As a VDC contractor, AgeWays receives referrals from the Detroit and Ann Arbor VA Medical Centers to support Veterans in our service region. VDC provides in-home services using a self-directed model, allowing Veterans to have a say in who provides their care and how it’s delivered. Standard supports may include care assessments, ongoing case management, help with personal care and homemaking, personal emergency response systems, transportation, and fiscal intermediary services.
Both programs are designed to help Veterans stay in a familiar environment, maintain independence, and access the care they need. Veterans interested in VDC should speak with their VA care team for a referral. Those exploring Aid and Attendance can work directly with the VA or a Veterans service officer to determine eligibility.
