Programs We Help Fund

At AgeWays, we’re proud to help provide funding to support a variety of programs designed to help older adults live safely, independently, and with dignity. Explore the programs below to learn more about the services that support older adults and caregivers.

Adult Day Centers

Adult Day Center offers a safe and engaging environment for older adults who require supervision due to conditions like dementia or other health concerns. These centers provide structured activities and social interaction, allowing caregivers to take respite while ensuring their loved ones receive quality care. Find an Adult Day Center near you.

Assistance to the Hearing Impaired and Deaf Community

Deaf Community Advocacy Network (DeafCAN) provides assistance to older adults with hearing impairments or who are deaf. Services provided include education/training on the rights and benefits of hearing impaired and deaf persons, assistance obtaining benefits and services, and training in techniques for adjusting lifestyle and living arrangements in response to hearing impairments and deafness.

Chore Services for Older Adults

Maintaining a home can become challenging as we age. The Chore program helps older adults with essential household tasks such as occasional lawn care, snow removal, gutter cleaning, and home maintenance services. These services are designed to make sure seniors have a safe place to live, enabling individuals to live independently in their own homes.

Community Meals for Seniors

Proper nutrition is vital for health and longevity. AgeWays supports community dining/congregate meal programs that provide nutritious meals to adults aged 60 and older. These meals are served in welcoming settings like senior centers, churches, and community centers, fostering social connections and promoting healthy eating habits. Community Liaison Services

Navigating available services can be overwhelming. Community Liaison Services connect older adults and their families with local resources, assist with program eligibility, and provide guidance through the application processes. These services ensure that individuals receive the support they need to thrive in their communities. Community liaisons can also meet with people in their homes to offer support with things like benefit applications.  Please see the list here to find the Community Liaison program serving your county.

Grandparents Raising Grandchildren

Many grandparents are stepping into the role of primary caregivers for their grandchildren. The Grandparents Raising Grandchildren programs we help to fund offer caregiver support groups, information and assistance and education and training to help these caregivers navigate the challenges they face, ensuring both their well-being and that of the children in their care. There are two Grandparents Raising Grandchildren programs in the six-county region that AgeWays serves. Oakland Livingston Human Service Agency (OLHSA) serves Oakland, Macomb and Livingston counties. Washtenaw County Catholic Charities serves Washtenaw county.

Home Injury Control

Preventing accidents in the home is crucial for older adults. The Home Injury Control program provides adaptations to the home environment to prevent or reduce the risk of falls and other injuries. Home injury control items include installation of safety devices like grab bars, non-slip mats, and shower chairs.

Legal Assistance

Understanding legal rights and responsibilities can be complex. AgeWays helps fund legal assistance programs for  older adults to help them navigate issues such as housing disputes, advance directives, and other legal matters. This support empowers individuals to make informed decisions and protect their interests. These partners include the Michigan Advocacy Program, Lakeshore Legal Aid, and Monroe County Senior Legal Services.

Prevention of Elder Abuse, Neglect, and Exploitation

Elder abuse is a serious concern that often goes unreported. Elder abuse prevention programs provide education, training and resources to help community members recognize signs of abuse and take appropriate action. By raising awareness, these programs aim to protect older adults and ensure they live with dignity and respect.

Volunteer Caregivers

The Volunteer Caregiver program provides respite for caregivers of older adults. Volunteers for the program help to provide relief to caregivers by providing companionship or supervision for the older adult they are caring for. The volunteer may assist with light housekeeping, running errands, meal preparation, and other tasks a participant may have difficulty performing. These activities can make a meaningful difference and provide a much needed break for caregivers.

If you or someone you know could benefit from any of these programs, please don’t hesitate to reach out. AgeWays is here to support you every step of the way. Contact us at 800-852-7795 to find a program in your community.
