Supporting Family Caregivers with Coaching, Training, Respite

We appreciate the critical work that family caregivers do year-round and often day after day. Along with advocating for public policies that offer more resources and support for family caregivers, AgeWays is an active partner in helping unpaid caregivers manage their loved ones and themselves.

We hope you’ll check out our programs for family caregivers:

Caregiving Coaching

Need a second opinion or advice on managing a tricky caregiving situation? Perhaps you’ve been-there-done-that and you think you could help other caregivers with your know-how. Caregiver Coaching pairs volunteer coaches (we train) with family caregivers for one-on-one partnerships. Partners talk by phone or video platform. To be matched with a coach, visit micaregivercoach.org.

Respite Voucher Program

We’re excited to offer family caregivers the opportunity to take a break to do whatever they need or want to do. Funded with a grant, the Respite Voucher Program requires a referral from a healthcare professional, aging-services pro, senior center staff or social worker. Caregivers may apply for up to $575 to pay for respite care by a family member, friend or professional. For more information, go to caregiverrespiteprogram.org, or call 248-262-5500.

Trualta

Have a caregiving dilemma? Want to learn the finer points of caring for someone with a certain condition? We’re offering a new online learning tool that provides professional-level healthcare training for family caregivers. Trualta offers videos, quizzes, and other content to keep you interested!  Available in mid-November. Call 248-262-2200 to sign up.

Powerful Tools for Caregivers

This popular sixweek workshop brings together family caregivers to talk about caregiving challenges and to learn self-care techniques. It is designed to help family caregivers take care of themselves while caring for a relative or friend. Topics discussed in the workshop include communicating effectively with family and health care providers, reducing stress and taking care of yourself, reducing feelings of guilt, anger and depression, making tough decisions, and relaxation techniques. Check out our events calendar for dates and times.

We hope you’ll carve out some time this month to do something nice for yourself!
